Privacy Notice

Last updated: November 15, 2025

ProtectYourParents.org is a personal project. I am not interested in tracking you, selling your data, or building advertising profiles. This page explains what limited information may be collected when you use the site and how it is handled.

1. Information you choose to share

If you contact me using an email address listed on the site (or by any other method you choose), I will see whatever information you send, such as:

  • Your email address
  • Your name (if you include it)
  • The contents of your message

I may keep your message in my personal email account so I can reply or refer back to it. I do not sell or share these messages with advertisers or data brokers.

2. Information collected automatically

Like most websites, the hosting provider for this site may automatically collect basic technical information when you visit, such as:

  • Your IP address and approximate region
  • The type of browser and device you use
  • The pages you visit and basic error logs

This information is generally used for security (for example, blocking abuse) and for keeping the site running reliably. I do not personally use it to identify individual visitors, and I do not combine it with other data to build profiles.

3. Cookies and analytics

As of the “Last updated” date above, this site is not designed to run advertising trackers or third-party ad networks.

If I decide to add simple analytics in the future (for example, to understand how many people download the tip sheet), I will aim to use privacy-respecting tools and update this page to explain what is being used and why.

4. The scam checker tool

The “Is This a Scam?” checker runs in your browser and analyzes only the text you paste into the box. It looks for words and phrases commonly seen in scam messages and shows possible warning signs and general safety tips.

The tool is not designed to store or log what you paste, and it does not connect to your bank, your email, or any of your accounts. That said, you should still avoid pasting extremely sensitive information like full account numbers, Social Security numbers, or entire copies of official documents.

5. Children’s privacy

This site is created for adults who want to help protect parents, grandparents, and other adults from scams. It is not aimed at children. If you believe a child has shared personal information with me, you can reach out using the contact details on the site and I will do my best to remove it.

6. Sharing of information

I do not sell your personal information. I may share limited information only in these situations:

  • If required by law, court order, or a lawful request from authorities.
  • If it is necessary to investigate or respond to abuse, attacks on the site, or security issues.
  • With service providers (such as the hosting company or email provider) who help operate the site, and who are expected to handle data responsibly.

7. Data retention

Email messages you send may be kept in my email account for as long as they are reasonably useful (for example, to continue a conversation or understand how people use the site). Server logs kept by the hosting provider may be stored for a limited time as part of their standard operations.

8. Your choices

You are not required to create an account or log in to use this site. You can:

  • Use the site and the scam tip sheet without ever contacting me.
  • Choose how much personal information you share if you do email me.
  • Use browser settings or privacy tools to limit cookies and tracking in general across the web.

9. Changes to this notice

This Privacy Notice may be updated from time to time as the site changes or as privacy best practices and laws evolve. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when the notice was most recently revised. If you continue to use the site after changes are posted, that will mean you accept the updated notice.

10. Contact

If you have questions about this Privacy Notice or how your information is handled, you can reach me using the contact details on the Contact page.
